2009 Hudson River Pageant

1pm – PARADE START

(Meet: 120 Warren Street bet. Greenwich & the River-1 blk below Chambers)

15-foot giant river species puppets and spectacular costumed gardens spirits kick off parade.

1:45pm – POET’S HOUSE – A HUDSON RIVER POEM

@ Laight Street in the Hudson River Park

Stewards of the River Ceremony with Manhattan Youth Downtown Community Center

2pm – DANCE OF THE RIVER GRASSES

@ Grass Mounds-in the Hudson River Park-bet. Laight & Vestry St.

Dance of the River Grasses performed on the undulating grass mounds featuring Human Kinetic Arts Dancers-by Choreographer Yana Schnitzler with POOK, the Percussion Orchestra of Kingston and with Living River Grass Costumes designed Michele Brody.

2:45pm – CHURCH STREET SCHOOL OF MUSIC & ART – CHOIR.

3:15pm – EXPLORATORY VOYAGE OF HENRY HUDSON – THEATRICAL VIGNETTE

@ Queen of Hearts Boat @ Leroy St in the Hudson River Park-just below Christopher St.)

Theatrical vignette presented by Karl Purnell’s National Historic Theater to highlight the Quadricentennial of Henry Hudson’s and Samuel de Champlain’s exploratory voyage of 1609, staged on the bow of the Queen of Heats River Boat-performance viewed from the promenade.

3:30PM – OYSTER GARDEN PLANTING CEREMONY

@ Christopher Street Pier-water taxi dock, in the Hudson River Park.

A performance/ceremony with the River Project- planting live oysters into the river accompanied by a conch shell chorus.

Children invited to participate in live fish release with original music and river songs by Jules Cazdessus and Ray Korona! .

NOTE: For children to participate please arrive 3:30pm-to check in table.

Children can show up in their own costumes as mermaids & sea/river creatures.

5pm – RIVER CLEANSING CEREMONY & WATER DANCE OF BOATS

@ area bet. Children’s Water Playground at Jane St. & Gansevoort St. Pier

The Water Dance of Boats is the ultimate crescendo of marine theme pageantry with a flotilla of 30-foot rowboats festooned with spectacular marine-life sculptures, and costumed kayaks performing a dance on the water by Bessie award winning choreographer Alice Farley and with music by David Hykes, a pioneer of overtone singing performing a River Chant with his Harmonic Choir. Boat participants include: Village Community Boathouse, Downtown Boathouse & The Harbor School.

A River Cleansing Ceremony is enacted along the rocky shoreline with the Friends of Hudson River Park and the Hudson River Park Trust Clean Sanctuary Campaign.
